The Colt’s ingenious space maximisation doesn’t stop there either; the rear passenger seats are removable, so the vehicle can easily be adapted into some kind of mini-van. The handling is extremely sharp and the agile chassis easily maintains a vice like grip on the road. The available 1.1 model is perhaps a little too understated for anything other than driving round town, but the turbocharged 1.5-litre in the CZT model is an extremely satisfying drive, with enough power and grunt to bring a smile to anyone’s face. As ecological awareness is now paramount in all but the most cynical of motorists’ minds, then it comes as good news that the Mitsubishi Colt is also an ecologically sound vehicle. Those of us who are feeling the financial pinch at the moment will be impressed that driver tests have shown that the Colt averages around 52 mpg. So Mitsubishi have followed up their concept of a practical vehicle by making it financially viable as well.The Mitsubishi Colt is unlikely to become major competition for the likes of the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, Fiat 500 or any of the revivals vying for the coveted best-selling hatchback honour.

A divorced wastegate has a plate the protrudes into the turbo to separate exhaust flow coming out of the turbo to give reduce turbulence. This is good for stock and smaller turbochargers the protrusion does not work with some aftermarket turbos like APS turbo’s for example. A Bellmouth has a wide open design that is better for larger turbochargers with more flow. It will work fine with a stock or small turbo, but it is designed for scenarios where wastegate turbulence is not an issue. Invidia’s catless downpipe will cause a Check Engine Light on your WRX/STi.

The Figo (which in Italian is colloquial for “cool”), designed and built entirely in India, follows the kinetic design cues the manufacturer uses in its vehicles around the world. It you are looking for a well built and decently equipped saloon that will offer an engaging drive, then the Fiesta is your best bet. For this price, you can get a two year old diesel variant or the 1.6 litre petrol. You could also get the smaller 1.4 litre petrol, but we suggest you to avoid these as they have been discontinued and thus finding spares could be a problem. The Fiesta’s brilliant chassis, sharp steering and slick gear box make it a dream to drive. The TDCi diesel with 68bhp feels a bit underpowered with a full load, but offers good responses from low engine rpm and is frugal too. The 100bhp, 1.6 litre petrol delivers brilliant flat out performance. This is a popular car even in the second hand market, so if you chance up on one that you like, snap it up immediately.
