Computer Viruses

Every day new computer viruses are created to annoy us and to wreck havoc on our computer systems. Below are ten viruses currently cited as being the most prevalent in terms of being seen the most or in their ability to potentially cause damage.
New viruses are created daily. This is by no means an all inclusive list. The best thing you can do is to remain vigilant, keep your anti-virus software updated, and stay aware of the current computer virus threats.

Virus: Trojan.Lodear
A Trojan horse that attempts to download remote files. It will inject a .dll file into the EXPLORER.EXE process causing system instability.

Virus: W32.Beagle.CO@mm
A mass-mailing worm that lowers security settings. It can delete security-related registry sub keys and may block access to security-related websites.
Virus: Backdoor.Zagaban
A Trojan horse that allows the compromised computer to be used as a covert proxy and which may degrade network performance.
Virus: W32/Netsky-P
A mass-mailing worm which spreads by emailing itself to addresses produced from files on the local drives.
Virus: W32/Mytob-GH
A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan fo r the Windows platform. Messages sent by this worm will have the subject chosen randomly from a list including titles such as: Notice of account limitation, Email Account Suspension, Security measures, Members Support, Important Notification.

Virus: W32/Mytob-EX
A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan similar in nature to W32-Mytob-GH. W32/Mytob-EX runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels. This virus spreads by sending itself to email attachments harvested from your email addresses.

TCP / IP

This abbreviation stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. It is the standard method by which all computers on the Internet communicate with one another.

Essentially, TCP breaks the data that is to be transmitted into little bundles called packets to be reassembled again after the transfer. It sets the standards for what thesr packets to be reassembled again after the transfer. It sets the standards for what these packets should look like and how to transmit them between computers.

Surfing the Web Anonymously

When you surf the web it is possible to learn information about you even when you don’t want to advertise who you are. This is true even if your system contains no virus or malware software.
Specifically information that is easily available online includes your IP address, your country (and often more location information based on IP address), what computer system you are on, what browser you use, your browser history, and other information. It gets worse.
People can get your computer’s name and even find out your name if your machine supports programs like finger or identd. Also, cookies can track your habits as you move from machine to machine.

Science – A Boon or Bane

Today science dominates the life in every sphere. We cannot dream of a life without science. It has worked wonders. It has shortened distance and lessened time. It has enabled d man to fly in air and sail on the sea. It has given eyes to the blind, ears to the deaf and limbs to the disabled. But like many other things, so powerful and beneficial an object, science has its dark side too.
Science has given various inventions in the service of man. There are railways, motorcars, scooters to travel safety, comfortably and rapidly to far off places. Aero planes have enabled man to fly in air and reach overseas land in no time. Ships sail on the sea and do a lot of mercantile trade. Internet carries messages to friends at a place hundreds of kilometers away.
But with all, science has also produced deadly weapons like atom, hydrogen and nitrogen bombs that can destroy the whole world in no time. In case of warfare, the aeroplanes bombard and hundreds of men and women are killed and made disabled.
Today man has lost the peace of mind and soul. He is always after the money. He has become proud and greedy. He has lost the sprit of goodwill and neighborhood. He is under constant fear of wars and destructions. Thus, science is a curse also to human happiness. Comforts and easiness cannot provide happiness.

Worm – A New Threat For Internet Users

A New Worm named Conficker, Downadup or Kido spreads in a wide range through memory sticks, USB or low security networks and affects the PC very fast and poses a great threat to many users. This malicious program was first identified in October 2008 and is growing at a very fast rate. This worm has affected more than 3.5 million users so far, or may be the figure could be far higher than the estimated one. Keeping the Anti-virus up to date can help the system from such malicious program, else the internet users are going to be affected to a great extent as the worm searches for some executable part of the windows program file like ‘services.exe’ and then copies itself into the Windows folder as some ‘dll’ file with some different names. The dll file then changes or modifies the windows registry and runs as a windows service. Once it becomes part of the windows service, it creates some HTTP server and downloads files from hacker’s website and also changes the system restore point. This worm is completely different from others as it uses some complicate algorithms to generate 100’s of domain names and makes use of it, by affecting the users worldwide mostly from China, Brazil, India, Russia, and many countries. From the generated domains, it uses only one site for downloading the hacker’s files, so it is not possible to track that particular site. Experts from Kaspersky lab said that the new variant included two weeks ago makes it more complicated and uses multiple mechanisms in USB’s too and downloads many contents and creates new variant through this mechanism. Technicians using some reverse mechanism of the worms, so that they could only monitor them but cannot disinfect them. Users without proper anti-virus updates are going to be affected by this malicious program.

Restructing Access :

Access control for printers work in much the same way as for shared folders . You can restrict access to the printer to specifc users by typing in a password in the shared Printer menu .
This way only those people with the password will be able to use the printer

In the right window, double click the ‘limit reservable bandwidth’ setting tab, check ‘ enabled ‘ , and change the ‘bandwidth limit %’ to read 0 . You should notice an immediate boost in you internet connection speed .

Speeding up network Browsing :
